EMINEM GETS COMPENSATION FROM NEW ZEALAND POLITICAL PARTY

Back in 2014, Eminem sued New Zealand’s leading conservative political party for plagiarizing his music which has been used in the election campaign. The promotion advertisement by National Party namely “Eminem Esque” was run on New Zealand’s TV 186 times for a period of 11 days. The track is similar to that of a jewel in the crown of Eminem’s catalogue “Lose Yourself” from the movie “8 Mile.”

A final verdict has been passed in favour of Eminem on 25 October, charging the National Party with a requiting amount of $600,000. Justice Helen Cull gives the final verdict which reads, “Eminem Esque sounds like a copy and is a copy of Lose Yourself.”

Adam Simpson, a Sydney-based lawyer supporting Eminem publisher Eight Mile Style says, “This decision is a warning to sound-alike music producers and their clients everywhere.” He adds, “The ruling clarifies and confirms the rights of artists and songwriters. It sets a major precedent in New Zealand and will be influential in Australia, the UK and elsewhere.”

On the other hand, National Party President Peter Goodfellow says the track “Eminem Esque” was purchased from an Australian-based company named “Beatbox” which might have bought the same from US suppliers. He already filed a case against the licensors and suppliers in sheer dismay.

Earlier, to clarify the claim,  both the tracks were played and trivial differences were noticed between the two tracks. Taking from the drum beats to piano musicals, it is almost a clone tune of “Lose Yourself.”

This is not for the first time Eminem filed charges. Back in 2004 also he drags Apple to court for using his song as TV commercials without his consent.

Eminem pledges to donate the entire proceeds in the relief efforts of survivors of hurricane Harvey and Irma.
