Crowdsourcing is probably the easiest solution to every problem in the world – like coming up with a name for your newest shade of blue.
After announcing that they’d be introducing a brand new shade of blue to their regular lineup instead of the age-old Dandelion, Crayola said that they’d be taking their name suggestions from their consumers.
The contest asking for names has finally ended and voting has begun after Crayola declared its top 5 picks for the blue name. There are five names to choose from: Blue Moon Bliss, Bluetiful, Dreams Come Blue, Reach For The Stars and Star Spangled Blue. Fans can vote once each day until the contest ends August 31.
The company supposedly received over 90,000 submissions for the contest, from which, the top 5 were chosen based on innovation, creativity and whether the name "captures the spirit and innovation of this new-to-the-world blue."
Daily prizes will be awarded to those who vote, and all entries qualify for a grand prize of a four-person trip to the Crayola Experience attraction in Orlando. The prize also includes a $1,000 gift card, $100 Crayola prize pack and a $1,000 donation to a school arts program.
While this isn’t the first time that Crayola is discontinuing old and introducing new shades, the entire affair is a specimen of how marketing initiatives and trends have evolved over the years, having become highly interactive in nature and inclusive towards consumers.
