Al Amar

Al Amar

Just by stepping into this intricate little place you get the feel of rich heritage and a beautiful ambience waiting to absorb you. Right after its inception in December 2015, Al Amar has become a much talked about place among the food lovers of Dhaka. With a little everything for every type of person, this place is rapidly becoming one of the favorites of the city dwellers. And after tasting their food I must say they deserve this accolade, a hundred percent.

Being one of the very few authentic Lebanese restaurants in Dhaka city, the restaurant already has an edge over all its competitors. And it is their emphasis on authenticity why they have already managed to get a good fan following in the city. Before getting into the topic of their food, I must mention their decor. They maintained simplicity everywhere. There are soft deep couches with tables positioned perfectly for easy dining. What I liked the most was that the waiters were patient and very helpful when you’re trying to order. They knew what each dish contained and most importantly had the patience to explain to all who are not accustomed to Lebanese cuisine.

Al Amar serves a wide range of Lebanese grilled items starting from traditional hot and cold mezzes, salads, kebabs, salads and even mouthwatering deserts. I ordered the Lahem Mechew which are basically lamb or beef skewers served with bread. My choice of protein was lamb and I must say this was a decision I will never regret. The meat was juicy and each bite was like butter. I also ordered my all time favorite Hummus with beef. All those who love Lebanese cuisine know what unique position this dish holds in our hearts. And I certainly was not disappointed. The puree was creamy and tasted amazing with the addition of few beef pieces on it. However I would have loved a bit more olive oil which is a signature part of this dish. However, I am not entirely sure if this is a problem with the dish or if my love for olive oil is being reflected through this minor detail.

To many this restaurant may seem a little pricey, a little above your average food bill. However I assure you, you will not regret it at all. Al Amar guarantees you a unique experience, one like no other. For those of you who have had the pleasure of visiting Lebanon, trust me, your memories will certainly be refreshed. So go indulge yourself in not only their food but also the culture and wait for the nostalgia to kick in.
