Alliance Française de Dhaka launched a twelve-day long solo painting exhibition titled ‘Life We Desire; Life We Gain’ by artist Bitap Shavan Bacchar at its La Galerie.
Born in 1985 in Satkhira, Bangladesh, Bitap completed his B.F.A and M.F.A from Dhaka University. Throughout the last decade, he has been running his imagination over the human psychology prevalent in our society and he found that unhappiness forms from natural manifestations where man desires something but gets another thing instead. This unhappiness, experienced by many from numerous disappointments throughout the duration of their lives, promulgates the collective depression of society. The artist tries to bring that out in his paintings, along with the social bondages and customs that are burdensome to humans. In his artworks, the conflict between desire and destination is sometimes the main point that he prefers to show.
Technically, the medium of the artwork is oil based, which is essentially Bitap's favourite medium because of its flexibility, durability and scope in order to work in details. Almost all the artworks are life-size as the artist wants to exhibit the visceral feelings of his subjective motives.
Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, Vice-Chancellor, University of Dhaka inaugurated the event as the chief guest, while Prof Nisar Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka and Prof Dr Asim Sarkar, Provost, Jagannath Hall, University of Dhaka were present as the special guests at the event. M Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, Vice President, Alliance Française de Dhaka welcomed the distinguished guests and presided over the opening ceremony, after which the exhibition was to remain open to all till August 2, 2016.
