Thanks to Funky 3D Faces - a British-based company, you can now have a minifigure of anyone! Even Batman!
Using facial recognition software to convert photos into miniature 3D models of the person's head, Funky 3D Faces is offering their valued customers an opportunity to doll themselves into their favorite Lego attire.
A small structure of the person's face and head is 3D printed with an extremely realistic color palette. For this sevice, a Lego-holic is required to provide two photos of their face, one side-facing and the other one front facing. The printed figure is then attached to the Lego figurine of the person's choice. The entire process will cost you £29.99 with an additional carrier and shipping fee.
A subsidiary of Lincoln-based 3D printing firm ELAT3D, Funky 3D Faces, also offers personalized cake top figurines, fridge magnets or action figures. Many have reviewed the miniatures to be “eerily life-like”.
Founded in 2004 originally by Colette Parker and later by Chris Lightfoot in 2014, ELAT3D produces 3D architectural and orthopedic models for surgeons to replicate bones using results of CT scans. But over time, their business boomed as they unleashed their creative minds. Their official website quotes, "Although we do enjoy making bones and buildings, we wanted to use the technology we had, to make something fun and affordable to the masses...the mission was to produce something that was small enough to be inexpensive but completely unique and personal to each individual."
I know I will be saving up my lunch money and perhaps borrow a little from my parents, to make ends meet and get my own Lego figurine delivered. Let's raid the toy world and dry our wallets in the process!
